John DeChiaro

John De Chiaro has been a resident of the Town of Pelham for the past 34 years. A practicing attorney for the last 46 years, primarily as a trial and appellate litigator in local, state and federal courts. He was admitted to the practice law before all courts of the State of New York as well as the Southern and Eastern District of the Federal Courts since 1977. He was also admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court in 1984.

Early in his career, he was the former law clerk to the Hon. Adolph C. Orlando, Judge of the New York State Court of Claims. He wrote numerous decisions in his capacity of a law clerk and was in the Courtroom daily, handling the calendar and overseeing trials.

Recently, he was the presiding Justice of the Pelham Town Court for eight (8) years (2012 – 2019) where he presided over Civil and Criminal cases and wrote legal decisions and presided over both civil and criminal trials.

Throughout his time as a resident of Pelham, he has become involved in the Pelham community. He is a longtime member of the Pelham Civics Organization and a parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Throughout the years, he was both a baseball and soccer coach in Pelham Recreation as well a member of the Siwanoy Dad’s Club.

Over the years, he has become involved in various professional organizations and is a member of the Columbian Lawyers First Department, having previously served as a Board member. He was also a Founding Member of the Columbian Lawyers of Westchester County and a Board Member as well. He is a proud member of the Westchester County legal community, providing legal counsel and services to the under served communities in both Family Court of Westchester County as well as in various local criminal courts.

John De Chiaro has been married to Mary Beth Mullins for the last 25 years. Mary Beth is also a local practicing attorney. They have one child, Gianfranco who was a student in the Pelham School system from Kindergarten through graduation from Pelham High School in 2020. He is presently a junior at St John’s University in Queens, majoring in legal studies. Their family includes 2 Labradors, Rocky and Lucy.
